In this Article, Best Types of Fishing Net in India 2021 we are going to talk about Types of Fishing Net available in India. In fishing, there are many types of net or fishery. The simplest type is the fishing net which is usually either woven or knotted with small holes. It’s used to catch fish. Another type is the seine net which captures a lot of water so that it forms a large tapering bag and comes together when it’s under the surface of the water. A third type is a gillnet which has meshes smaller than a fist in width and between two and three meters deep. It is used to capture fish for human consumption. The fourth type is the trawl, a large fishing net with long floats or baskets attached, which are pushed into the water and pulled along the bottom by a boat. The last type of fishing net is the purse seine which is a large floating net with a long line dragged behind it by tugs, allowing it to be trailed along the bottom.

The basic principle is that any form of the fishing net has several meshes, each about half an inch (1 cm) apart except for those made with smaller meshes such as seiners and gillnets where there are more mesh sizes on both sides of the nets. The most common nets set out today are seine nets and gillnets. Seine nets take a while to harvest the fish, but when they do, they yield much fish which weigh between 8 and 30 lb. (3.6 and 13 kg). It is said that, in the past, fishermen could earn £100 per day from a single catch of salmon on board the ship, but with trawlers having smaller nets than seiners or gillnets and no bailing out system, this is unlikely in modern times.

Another type of fishing net involved bailing out net contents from a boat into the water while other boats were trawling below. This minimized catch loss. The nets are then collected from the water by pulling them along the bottom of the sea. Gaffing and windrows are considered to be traditional methods.
Other types of fishing nets involve specific technology, which has been developed over time and continues to be refined as technology improves, including electronic devices which can sense fish swimming beneath the surface of the water. “Hapuku” (or “Hapuka”) is a method that uses a gig to catch fish in steep drop-offs; it’s a way to land large quantities of fish by hauling them up on a line through the water.

There are several types of fishing nets in India.

 – One type is a permanent net that is tied, suspended from a long line, and used to snare fish.
– Another type is the purse seine net, which has a large mouth at one end and a small one at the other with floats on either side to keep it afloat.
– The third types of Fishing Net in India are known as the gillnet, which has vertical panels hung from poles by float lines and ropes.
– The fourth types of fishing net in India includes “creel” nets, which are used for both catching fish and collecting shellfish such as oysters or mussels.
– The fifth types of fishing net, casting nets are used to catch fish by casting it into the water.
– The sixth types of fishing net are known as fish traps or weirs, which consist of large wicker baskets with funnel-shaped entrances and stone or concrete walls.

Fishing nets are used for fishing together with fish traps, which are large nets that result in the capture of larger varieties like tuna etc. During the time of war, these were also used by warriors to capture enemies, and hence their historical significance.

The different types of fishing nets are creel net, gill net, set net, and haul seine. A larger variety of fish is captured using these nets. It includes a few individuals who set out to fish but drown in the process. It is also used to trap fish using large nets for collection at one point. There are three main types of bait used by fishermen to catch fish which include sand eel, mackerel strip, and squid lure, etc.

Some types of fish that can be easily caught by using the fishing nets are mackerel, cod, whiting, pollack, haddock, etc.. These are classified according to the different types of fishing nets. Some of these imply traps and others for catching fish by casting the net into the water etc.

1. Gillnet

It is a fishing net, which is hung vertically in the water and used as a method for the commercial fishery. Gillnets are also known as “wet set” nets since they are typically used in saltwater. Gillnets are effective at catching fish because they allow fish to become trapped within the net rather than merely grappling with it or becoming entangled in its meshes. A typical gillnet is made of monofilament line, usually, 1.5-3 mm thick with a mesh size of 5×10 cm (2×4″). A gillnet is often shaped like a bag, with a small mouth at the net’s “head” end and a large mouth at its tail. The net is left in the water for some time to allow fish to get accustomed to it. If successful, they will enter the mouth and swim into the tail of the net. The fish are then allowed to move backward and forwards in the “head” of the net, getting “tighter” with every movement. When enough fish have entered (usually when there is about 60% of net free) they are simply hauled on board by hauling up on the anchor line (if anchored), or by using powered winches if this is not possible. The gillnet is unraveled (often onboard the boat), a process is known as “peeling” and the fish are then removed. Gillnets are usually set for periods of 24 hours or more, and fish caught are recorded by the number of coded rings passed through each fish’s mouth.

Gillnets can also be set in midwater using buoys to keep them at a certain depth. Midwater gillnets typically use much thinner (0.008-0.010 mm) lines than traditional gillnets, but with larger mesh sizes (typically 20×40 cm). This allows the codend to be set much closer together, for example within 10-20 cm of one another. Fish are quickly collected in midwater gillnets, as they are nearly impossible to escape from. The advantage of midwater gillnets is that they are very efficient at catching a wide range of fish species, and can be more selective and effective than traditional gillnets (which catch many different species). The disadvantage is that their operation is more labor-intensive; they require constant tending by boatmen and crew, rather than being easier to operate.

2. Keil nets

These types of fishing nets are used in deep-sea specifically for the collection of tuna fish etc. They are used in the deeper waters of the ocean specifically for Midwater collections. They are also more effective, faster, and reliable than normal gill nets.

3. Purse seine

These types of fishing nets consist of largemouth at one end and a small mouth at another end with floats on either side to keep it afloat. It is a very effective method for catching fish such as tuna etc which can be easily caught by using this net. It is also used to capture larger varieties like tuna etc during the time of war.

These types of fishing nets consist of a line that is put out into the sea attached to a floating object, with smaller lines called “warp” attached to it in regular intervals. The warps are pulled tight, and the fish are then caught by baiting the line and pulling on the warps. The warps can also be put out at different depths in order to catch a bigger variety of fish.

4. WeirsBest Types of Fishing Net in India 2021

It is a wide shallow channel or narrow channel that is made in order to trap fish such as salmon etc. They can be constructed of wood, stone, or concrete, depending on the size of the fish being trapped. Weirs work by funneling water into a stream, which flows into a lower pool where salmon swim out of and fall through an open mouth at the bottom. When salmon swim into the weirs, they can get trapped and held underwater until they eventually drown.

Weirs can be constructed by using scoops, chutes, or sluices. Sluices allow water to flow through at a very slow rate. Chutes work like sluices but feature an inclined channel with a narrow entrance that leads to the pool. Scoops have a wide entrance channel that leads directly to the pool.

5. Fish traps

These types of fishing nets which is used for catching fishes specifically in lakes or rivers etc. The purpose of using fishing nets in water is to catch a large number of fish in a small area.

Fishing nets and traps are used to catch animals such as shellfish as well as fish such as cod, whiting, hake, etc.. on the seabed. Fish traps are put into the water in areas where fish are likely to swim by, and they then catch them, without harming the fish.

Fishing nets and traps are once used for collecting mud crabs and other crabs as well. The fiddler crab is caught using gillnets by lowering them into tidal pools at night time when the crabs are out feeding.
